About Me
Kevin Cuenca
Born in San Diego, Kevin’s love for sports broadcasting began at an early age from watching SportsCenter. His first memories are from a multi-cultural street, where he’d join his older brother and other kids to play countless hours of sports like football games to 100 & basketball games on a mini-hoop. His dad was in the Navy, so he lived in 5 different cities growing up. at 12 years old, Kevin’s parents divorced and his mom brought him & his older brother to live in the North Bay. All the moving helped Kevin relate to people from different backgrounds, a trait he’s used as a sports journalist and for his social media content. He graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in broadcast journalism. During his time on campus, Kevin was chosen as a practice player for the men’s basketball team and helped the Orange in 2003, when it won the NCAA championship. After graduating, he spent nearly 15 years as a reporter/anchor on TV, finishing at the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles. Kevin won an Emmy for his sports reporting and covered two NBA Finals, two World Series & a Super Bowl. He’s also traveled to England, Australia, Germany, Mexico, Colombia and the Philippines to cover stories. Lastly, whether it’s volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club or teaching media at high schools in Oakland, Kevin does his best to follow the advice of his mentor Daryl Hawks: “Pay it forward.”
